Pregnancy Wardrobe Essentials - Review of Maternity Pieces in My Wardrobe

While I'm in the hospital with baby, I've set up a few scheduled posts.

As soon as I can I will be back to posting my usual daily outfits. Until then I hope you enjoy the little break and slight change of format.

First up, talking about my pregnancy wardrobe and the maternity pieces I wore through my pregnancy.

I had a total of 14 maternity pieces to supplement my existing wardrobe. I've included links below so you can see when I wore them, and how often I wore them. My goal was to buy as little maternity pieces as possible.

Tops:

Dresses:

Skirts:

Shorts:

Pants:

You can hear my thoughts and opinions by watching the video, but in summary:
  • I was lucky to have a lot of pieces in my existing wardrobe that worked well in pregnancy. Lots of flowy, loose, oversized and stretchy pieces meant I didn't need much maternity wear. I'll do a follow up post about the non-maternity items I found most helpful.
  • Maternity tops I found tricky to wear as the extra length swamped my petite frame.
  • Dresses were the easiest, most comfortable maternity wear option for me. Great go-to pieces!
  • The Asos maternity pencil skirts I bought were fantastic for work and I'd recommend them to anyone who has to dress for pregnancy in the office.
  • Jeanswest maternity denim is the only brand of maternity jeans I tried - perfect first time so I didn't try to look elsewhere.

I hope that you found this post useful, and that you can pass it along to anyone who might benefit from it :) Different from my usual posts, but I thought that laying out what I wore and how I wore it during my pregnancy might come in helpful for someone.

Balenciaga Blue Day Bag. Zara Blazer, Grey Tee, Asos Pencil Skirt | Pink Blush Maternity Dress, Leopard Print Scarf

Here's what I wore to work on Tuesday:

Jacket: Zara frayed basket weave cardigan in blue
Necklacecustom Cooper charm by Silhoupette
TeeSpectrum basic v-neck tee in grey marl
SkirtAsos graphic print pencil skirt - on sale! (maternity version here)
Shoes: Wittner 'Bolla' black bow detail flats
Bracelets: the usual plus Balenciaga coated stud wrap bracelet in icy blue
BagBalenciaga giant hardware Day bag in 2009 tempete

Grey tee and pencil skirt for a nice easy work outfit. Added the cosy jacket to keep me warm in the morning, as it's starting to get a little chilly. I think it dressed up the tee and skirt combination nicely too. And because I'm still feeling unimaginative with wardrobe options, my Balenciaga day bag again, haha! It's great that this bag goes with so much, as I'm wearing it with everything!

Think the photo doesn't do this outfit justice - I felt really great in this, but I was in a bit of a rush taking photos.

Last worn: Zara blazer, grey tee, Asos maternity pencil skirt, Wittner flatsBalenciaga tempete day bag.

Simple dress for work. I love how easy maternity dresses are to wear! Wanted to be warm so added a big cosy scarf. Almost disguises the baby bump.

Wasn't too sure about the burgundy and blue together at first, but I think it looked okay in the end. What do you think?

Chloe Marcie Hobo Bag, Third Trimester Dresses for Pregnancy: Soon Maternity and Pink Blush Maternity

Here's what I wore to work on Tuesday:
Soon Maternity Madeline Print Wrap Dress worn in 3rd trimester professional office wear

Necklace: sterling silver monogram necklace C/O MyNameNecklace.com.au
Dress: Soon Maternity 'Madeline' grey print wrap dress
ShoesWittner 'Bolla' black bow detail flats
Bracelets: the usual plus Marc by Marc Jacobs enamel turnlock stripey hinge black and white bangle
BagChloe Marcie medium hobo bag in Nut

Had a big meeting Tuesday, so simple yet professional in a wrap dress. This dress is another ebay maternity wear purchase. I actually won the auction a while ago, but forgot to pay the seller right away and then the seller took a while to ship it. Unlike my last purchase, the dress was the stated size and in the stated condition, so I'm really happy with it! Again, such a bargain compared to the retail price. Feel like I'll get a lot of use out of this in my last few months of pregnancy too.

Hopefully I don't need to expand my collection of maternity clothes any further - getting difficult to see the value in maternity-specific things when I'm in the third trimester! The bump is growing though and I'm surprised how quickly I've outgrown things I was sure I'd get more wear out of. Dressing in pregnancy is always a learning experience!

Last worn: black flats, Chloe Marcie Hobo bag. First time I've worn the dress as it's a recent purchase.

Here's what I wore to work today:

ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs logo plaque flats in camel
Bracelets: the usual plus beaded neon and gold and black and gold bracelet set
BagChloe Marcie hobo bag in Nut

Sticking with the easy option - another maternity dress today! I liked how simple yesterday's outfit was, so went for a dress again. A little sad that these flats are starting to pinch a bit though - they are usually such comfortable shoes! Even had to put a band aid on one of my heels today. I'm blaming the heat and maybe a little bit of pregnancy swelling, haha.

Pink Blush Maternity Dress, Marc Jacobs Fran | Casual Friday Oscar's Law Tee, Striped Maxi Skirt, Bal Velo

Here's what I wore to work on Thursday:
Pink Blush maternity Burgundy Button Sash Maternity Dress Second Trimester

NecklaceDogeared 3 Wishes stardust bead necklace layered with Chanel necklace
Dress: burgundy button sash maternity dress C/O Pink Blush Maternity
Shoes: New Look brown cut-out detail shoe

BagMarc By Marc Jacobs Classic Q Fran bag with gold hardware in carob brown

The lovely Olivia from Pink Blush Maternity contacted me a while ago to congratulate me on the baby news, and offer me the chance to try out one of their maternity pieces. I picked this lovely burgundy dress, as it's a maternity and nursing dress so I'm sure to get a lot of wear out of it. It arrived in just a week, really fast shipping from the US to Australia!

It's super soft and stretchy but not clingy so I know I'll be able to wear it lots as the baby bump grows. It certainly has enough room to allow for the growing bump. I like the adjustable tie, and it's really comfortable. With it being a nursing dress as well, I wasn't too sure if it was too low cut for the office so I wore a singlet underneath just to be on the safe side.

Asked my darling friend K for her honest opinion on the dress and she thinks it's beautiful, so definitely a winner! Looking forward to wearing it more over the next few months - my first maternity dress :) Getting a little maternity wardrobe going - 1 dress, 1 top, 2 pencil skirts, 3 pairs of jeans. Been getting some tips from friends about how to make use of my existing wardrobe too which is very helpful.

Last worn: Ray Bans, brown flats, Marc by Marc Jacobs Fran bag. First time I've worn the dress as it's a new arrival.

Here's what I wore to work today:
Oscar's Law Break the puppy trade don't buy the lie grey tee stripe maxi bal velo

Balenciga classic coquelicot velo bag worn on arm hermes twilly Kelly en Calèche
Necklacecustom Cooper charm by Silhoupette
Tee: Oscar's Law 'Break the puppy trade' tee (new purchase)
JeansJeanswest maternity super skinny jeans in antique blue
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs studded mouse flats in grey
Bracelets: the usual plus Hermes twilly Kelly en Calèche tied as bracelet
BagBalenciaga Coquelicot Velo

If you've followed me for a while (or if you've looked in my sidebar) you'll know I strongly support Oscar's Law. They recently released a new fundraising tee so I had so snap it up right away! It reads: 'help break the puppy trade and don't buy the lie'. Oscar's Law is about ending the cruel puppy farm cycle by educating people, trying to get changes in the law to better protect puppy farm animals and stop stores from selling puppies.

We adopted Cooper, we support our local shelter and every chance I get I let people know how great rescue dogs are. Even resorting to using my baby belly as a mini billboard by wearing tees like this, haha! Added my Balenciaga velo for a bit of red today for Chinese New Year. Gong xi fa cai!

Last worn: Jeanswest maternity jeans, Hermes twillystudded flats, Balenciaga Velo. First time I've worn the tee as it's a recent purchase.
