What I Wore For Christmas Day, Eve and Boxing Day

Finally getting around to sharing what I wore for Christmas! Always feels strange sharing Christmas outfits in January, but I'm never to up to date with blogging what I've worn. I hosted Christmas for the family this year so I'm sharing my Christmas eve and Christmas day outfits, as well as what I wore to the in-laws when we celebrated with that side of the family on Boxing day.

What I wore:

Earrings: gold angel stud earrings (Christmas present)
Necklace: double circle hammered pendant necklace (Christmas present)
Dress: Iris Maxi The Label flora print blue and white mini dress (Christmas present)
Shoes: Kmart tan crossover slides (Christmas present)
Bracelets: the usual plus vintage silver charm bracelet and Disney Couture Winnie the Pooh bangle
BagRebecca Minkoff Leo envelope clutch in champagne gold

Why I wore it:

I had planned my Christmas outfit in advance, and then I unwrapped this dress on Christmas day from my sister and knew I just had to wear this instead! It does come with a belt (and has belt loops on the side) but I figured for Christmas day feasting it was best to wear it unbelted. This was beautiful, light and flowy and oh so perfect for a humid Christmas. We were very lucky to avoid major damage from the Christmas day storms that evening.

The sandals and the necklace are both new, from my parents. The Rebecca Minkoff Leo envelope clutch is an old favourite, especially for Christmas. I didn't really need a bag as we stayed home, enjoying time with the family, eating yummy food, only minorly burning the lunch, and watching the kids enjoy all their new toys and presents.

Last worn: Rebecca Minkoff Leo envelope clutch. First time I've worn the dress, necklace and sandals as they were Christmas presents.

Other ways to wearRebecca Minkoff Leo envelope clutch and maxi dress.

What Fits Inside: Rebecca Minkoff Leo Envelope Clutch

What I wore:

Earrings: Kmart glitter gingerbread man earrings
Tee: festive glitter Santa tee
Skirt: thrifted SES Fashions vertical stripe maxi skirt
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
Bracelets: the usual
BagMulberry Lily in maroon metallic suede leopard

Why I wore it:

I wore this for Christmas eve. My sister bought my mum and I these festive tees 10 years ago, they are still going strong! It's a nice tradition to get to wear it. Sadly, the little festive bracelets haven't fared so well and mine is getting harder to wear as the elastic dries out.

As well as baking and decorating a huge pile of Christmas cookies, we made some Christmas deserts, ate lots of snacks, and spent our time doing Christmas craft and watching Christmas movies. It was a really fun way to spend Christmas eve and I look forward to this each year - it's such a special day. Somehow preparing all the food for Christmas eve seems less stressful than preparing Christmas day lunch!

This year we got a make your own Christmas earring kit for one of our crafts and had a lot of fun with it - quite pleased with some of the pieces I made! My mum, sister and I all have matching handmade earrings now.

Last worn: festive Santa tee, striped maxi skirt, Havaianas, Mulberry leopard print Lily bag. First time I've worn the earrings as they were a recent purchase.

Other ways to wearfestive Santa tee and shorts, striped maxi skirt and denim jacket, Mulberry leopard print Lily bag and maxi dress.

Perfect for pregnancyfestive Santa tee in second trimester.

What I wore:

Earrings: DIY green clay Christmas tree earrings
NecklaceStarfish Project Hannah turquoise bead necklace
Dress: thrifted peach and white floral print tiered sundress
Shoes: Kmart tan crossover slides
Bracelets: the usual plus Polka Luka resin bangles in red, orange and teal
BagRebecca Minkoff Leo envelope clutch in champagne gold

Why I wore it:

This is another more casual Christmas outfit! I wore this to go celebrate Christmas with the in-laws on Boxing day. They have their celebration a day later which works out well for everyone. It was a bit of an eventful day, with the Boxing Day storms. It had been a little rumbly and there was some rain for most of the day, but it wasn't too bad until the next wave of storms came over bringing hail. Lots of scrambling to try cover up the cars as with everyone there we couldn't all fit in the garage. Luckily, the hail didn't get big enough to cause any damage. It did make for an interesting drive home later that night though, with debris all over the roads and power and traffic light outages. I somehow also managed to cover the back of my dress in mud - unsure if it was when I was putting the cover on the car in the hail or taking it off after the storm, but thankfully it's all washed out.

As it was such a hot and humid day, again I changed up what I planned to wear and went with this super light tiered sundress. I've added red and green to it before and think the colours work surprisingly well with the orange palm print. So I added the green beaded necklace, red and teal resin bracelet stack, and although it's a little tricky to see, my new Christmas tree earrings I'd made a couple days before on Christmas eve. I thought they matched the necklace nicely. I also wore my new sandals again. The Rebecca Minkoff Leo envelope clutch got another wear, as I didn't need to carry much, just the essentials. I had a separate bag for our snack contributions to add to the festive food spread.

Last worn: tiered sundress, green necklace, resin bracelet stack, sandals (above), Rebecca Minkoff Leo envelope clutch (above). First time I've worn the earrings as I made them on Christmas eve.

Other ways to weartiered sundress layered with a knit, Rebecca Minkoff Leo envelope clutch and pink dress.

Hopefully you had a fun Christmas with your loved ones, and were not impacted by any of the storms.

Mulberry Lily Bag in Suede Metallic Leopard Print With Jersey Maxi Dresses

It's no secret that I love maxi dresses, despite being petite. I wear them fairly often as they are quick and simple throw on and go outfits. Sometimes when I'm trying to dress them up a little, I'll pick special accessories or bags to wear with them.

The Mulberry Lily bag I'm wearing in the photos below is definitely very special! It was something I feel in love with in a magazine but it sold out online while I deliberated over getting it. My friend (who now has her own handbag consignment business!) managed to find one in the UK, and I confessed to my mum I wanted to get it. My mum and friend worked together and I got gifted this beautiful bag!

It is very delicate so worn sparingly, but always makes me smile when I do get it out for a wear. Looks stunning with a maxi dress too!

Shoes: NineWest "Quicken" wedges in natural
Bracelets: the usual plus vintage charm bracelet
BagMulberry Lily in maroon metallic suede leopard
NailsOPI Koala Bear-y

Why I wore it:

As is typical for our Easter Sunday celebrations, I went with a maxi dress to wear to church. After church we had Easter lunch with the in-laws, a road trip down the coast and then Easter dinner and an Easter egg hunt with my family. A busy day!

It was cooler in the morning so I grabbed the denim jacket, but it heated up into such a warm day I didn't need it on long.

This maxi dress is one I'm trying to reach 30 wears on and I'm so close, so I've been wearing it a lot, mostly casually. I went super casual with it last time I wore it. To dress it up this time around, I added my special occasion pieces: the beautiful leopard print Mulberry Lily, a pair of wedges and my very sentimental charm bracelet. Perfect outfit for a wonderful day.

I've never done an Easter egg hunt before, so seeing the boys have their first one was hilarious. Such a special memory.

Why I wore it:

A rare night out! Some Church Online people were in town and there was a special barbeque hosted by one of the volunteers, for volunteers and their families. I did consider taking the boys, but as it was a little bit of a drive away and I wasn't sure how that would work with their bedtime routine, I left them at home with hubby and went out for the night myself.

I'm pleased I did as the afternoon BBQ quickly turned into amazing conversations and I didn't get home until after 10pm (late night for this mum!). It was so good meeting people from Brisbane who also volunteer at Church Online, I've been a chat host there for 7 years this year so it's a big part of my life and so incredible to get to meet up in person. My friend from out of state flew in, as well as two of the Life Church Online pastors from the US, so it was really wonderful to spend time with them.

Wasn't so sure with my outfit though! I'd originally thought of wearing a black maxi dress, but decided at the last minute to switch to this blue one for a little bit of colour. We had an appointment in the morning to go to first, so I spent most of the day with my Louis Vuitton Neverfull and switched to the clutch for the evening.
I like blue and red together, but wasn't so sure about the leopard print with the geometric print on the dress. I think I should have stuck with my original black maxi dress choice! Still was comfortable and happy in this for the BBQ, even if I'm not as happy with how it looks in photos.

Jersey Maxi Dresses Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

There are so many different dress codes a maxi dress can work for. It's not too casual, and not too formal. It's a go-to for me, but to make it even more special you can pick out a fancy accessory or two, or add some wedges, to make it a little more dressed up than usual. A special statement bag like this printed Mulberry Lily is a great idea.

Empire Waist Maxi Dresses and Cross Body Bags | 6 Months Without Shopping Month 1

First month of the 6 months without shopping challenge completed already and I found it pretty easy for once! Didn't buy anything, despite tagging along for a trip to the outlets. Hoping I continue to do so well for the next 5 months.

I spent a lot of January catching up with friends and family and since they knew I was trying not to spend, we avoided the shops. The summer weather makes shops a less attractive option as well. The boys are keeping me busy too so I have less computer time which means less online shopping time.

Even though I'm not shopping there have been a few changes to my wardrobe since I last shared an update post in December. I got a cosy knit dress from my grandma and two scarves as belated Christmas gifts. I'm looking forward to wearing and enjoying them when autumn arrives. I also returned a couple of pieces from my December purchases as I didn't love them when I tried them on at home.

For what I've been wearing, some simple outfits with empire waist maxi dresses. I have always liked that style for maxi dresses, it accommodates pregnant belly nicely and it's wonderful post-baby when you have leftover mum-tum!

What I wore:

Bracelets: the usual plus vintage charm bracelet
BagMulberry Lily in maroon metallic suede leopard (get it in pink! Extra 20% off with code 'WINTER')
NailsOPI Breakfast at Tiffany collection 'I got the mean reds' and 'Sunrise...bedtime'

Why I wore it:

Wore this pretty maxi dress to attend a late Christmas celebration with family who were overseas in December. I really wanted to wear this pretty metallic and suede bag as it matched my red and silver manicure (OPI Breakfast at Tiffany collection), and I knew I wanted to wear the dress. Wasn't sure if the orange and red would work together until I remembered something Sheila said - if the colours occur together in nature you know they will look good together in an outfit. Red and orange remind me of sunsets. So pleased I wore both pieces I think they look lovely together and I really liked this outfit!

Despite it not being one of my most popular outfits on Instagram this is one of my favourite outfits, wouldn't change a thing. It's such a simple outfit too. Every time I wear this dress I think of my lovely friend who gave it to me, I always feel good when I wear it.

The earrings are a beautiful prize I won on Instagram - handmade by A Little Bit of North. Highly recommend checking them out, they are based in Canberra. I did add a teething necklace to this but was in a rush so it was still in the baby bag when I took pics that morning.

Why I wore it:

This is an old photo - from November! I'm not sure why this outfit hasn't been shared before now. I was trying to organise my photos to post and realised I hadn't used this one yet. While I take photos every day (as you can see on Instagram), I try to group them together into things that make sense for a post, like breastfeeding dresses or studded sandals and denim shorts.

It's what I wore to a playgroup Christmas picnic before the summer break. I've worn this dress with yellow before and really liked the combination so it was good to recreate it again with this mustard yellow bag. Nice and simple outfit, perfect for a picnic on a hot day and playing with the boys.

Festive Outfits: Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and 2016 Budget

Although there is a fairly large pile of outfit photos waiting to be posted I figured I'd best share my festive outfits before 2017 arrives. Also wanted to share the spending total for 2016 as my last post for the year too.

My 5 year blogaversary is this weekend, so come back Monday for a special post to celebrate. You can enter my Charlotte Tilbury giveaway on youtube in the meantime.

What I wore:

Summer festive Christmas Eve outfit Santa glitter tee and shorts metallic bag | Away From Blue

Mulberry Lily bag in maroon metallic suede leopard | Away From The Blue
Dress: festive glitter Santa tee
ShortsJeanswest Trinity Bermuda denim shorts (currently on sale, 40% off!)
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
BagMulberry Lily in maroon metallic suede leopard (get it in pink!)

Why I wore it:

The traditional Christmas tee for our family Christmas eve celebrations. I've worn this tee every year since we started the novelty Christmas tee tradition. Even while pregnant!

I have been playing along with two December style challenges on instagram so brought out this pretty but rarely used Mulberry Lily bag to meet the December Wear What Where challenge. It was last worn 3 years ago! I wear it so sparingly as it's so delicate being metallic suede, and it's so special to me. The glitter in the tee was perfect for the DAREcember challenge too.

A nice casual and comfortable outfit for a day down the coast listening to Christmas music, doing Christmas craft and of course making Christmas cookies! One of which toddler T left out for Santa that night.

Last worn: Santa tee, Bermuda denim shorts, Havaianas, Mulberry leopard print Lily bag

Other ways to wearChristmas tee trio, Bermuda denim shorts and khaki tank, Mulberry leopard print Lily bag and maxi dress

What I wore:

Chanel vintage quilted lambskin flap bag | AwayFromTheBlue
Shoesslim gold Havaianas
Bracelets: the usual plus gifted Tous pink and cream bracelet
BagChanel vintage quilted lambskin flap (same in pinkand beige)

Why I wore it:

This was my outfit for Christmas day. After present opening and lunch and naps for the boys we headed over to the in-laws for the afternoon and dinner.

I got this dress after seeing it on two people on Instagram in quick succession. My sister called as I was scrolling through and she had just left Kmart, so I asked her to go back and get it, ha! I wasn't sure how practical it would be for breastfeeding in, but the adjustable straps kept coming undone and sliding off my shoulders unprompted anyway! I spent more time pulling it up than pulling it down for feeding. I'm hoping it behaves a little more and the straps stay in place next time I wear it, as it really is such a pretty dress.

Last worn: Havaianas, vintage Chanel bag. First time I've worn the dress as it's a new purchase.

Other ways to wearvintage Chanel bag at 39 weeks pregnant.

2016 Budget

As this is my final post for the year, an update on my spending budget.

In 2014 I set myself a goal to wear everything I buy at least twice in a month after buying it. I was frustrated by how many items I was discovering in my wardrobe with tags on! Earlier this year I changed the goal to wear things twice in the month I buy them. It meant I spent less near the end of the month as I had to be really sure I was going to wear things twice in quick succession. It was a good tool to slow my spending even more.

There were some exceptions to the wear twice in a month rule. Most recently, a stunning trench coat I picked up for over $100 off in the Cyber Monday sales that is not going to get worn in a Queensland summer!
The items I bought early in December weren't worn as much as they could have been after staying in hospital with baby boy for two weeks. I have bought a lot at the end of December in the boxing day sales that probably won't even arrive until January so anything I keep from those orders will fail that test too. I'm still pleased with how this rule has helped me think more critically about what I've bought over the year though, and will be continuing to use it.

What I bought in December:

Some of the above might be returned if it doesn't fit or work as well in my wardrobe as I imagined, but I've included it in the total spend in case I keep it all.

What I Bought in 2016

My monthly spending posts for the year: January, nothing in February or March, AprilMayJuneNo buy JulyAugustNo Spender SeptemberOctoberNovember.

Over 2016, I spent $1,824.11. The majority of that was in the first 6 months of the year, but it works out as an average of $152 a month. Doesn't sound a lot, but when you add it up it looks pretty large! For 2017, my goal is to spend less. I'm pleased I spent less in the second half of the year. January (post-Christmas sales!) and June (start of winter) were my biggest spending months in 2016.

Did you track your spending for the year? How did you go?

Just a casual outfit for Casual Friday at work. Went with pink as it matched the tee nicely and pink always looks great with this blue jacket :)

Have had another wardrobe clearout and listed a few things on ebay, including a couple of my handbags. Feel free to check it out, everything starts at 99 cents. Even the bags ;)

Jeans and a tee again for Saturday today. Ran some errands in the morning, and walked Cooper in the afternoon. Wanted to wear my new jeans :) Saw and admired these jeans on the Sass and Bide instagram months ago, and was pleasantly surprised when I checked the site Wednesday and saw they were on sale! Bought them right away without hesitating of course. So happy to have them arrive on Friday after just buying them 2 days before.

Decided to wear my Mulberry Lily bag again, as I haven't worn it in a while. Wasn't sure if it was too much suede with the shoes and bag together though, what do you think?

Yum Cha, pancakes, Mulberry Lily, and Cooper gets a trim

Had such a nice day today. Cooper got a much needed grooming session in the morning and then we went out to lunch with DH's family to have yum cha to celebrate Chinese New Year in the afternoon.

After lunch we were lucky to see a dragon dance performance and then we stopped at Hotcake House for some yummy pancakes for desert.

Here's a shot of the pancakes being made:
They get cooked on the hot plates at the front and then stacked at the back when they are done. They have so many different fillings - I got to try the custard one and a chocolate one, delicious!

Here's what I wore today:

Dress: JeansWest
Necklace: Diva red stone necklace
Bracelets: the usual plus Hermes Kelly double tour, and red crystal and freshwater pearl ones made by a talented friend.
Shoes: Asos
Bag: Mulberry Metallic suede leopard Lily in Maroon. (Gift from my mum, obtained via the sourcing service from Sheree at My Little Boutique)

Such a great print on this dress! Tried to wear as much red as possible as it is tradition for Chinese New Year. I have a fun red dress set aside for work on Monday too as we will be celebrating then also.

I really like my Mulberry Lily bag - not just because it shares a name with my bestie - but because it has such a fun story behind how I got it. I saw it in a magazine and stalked it on Net-A-Porter until it sold out. Months later I found one second hand online but the sale fell through and I was sad I'd missed out on it. My Mum offered to get it for me instead as a birthday gift, and Sheree from  My Little Boutique was able to track down a brand new one at the Mulbery outlet for us. I'm blessed with the best friends and family.

Closeup of the red accessories:

Cooper is feeling much better after his bath and hair cut - he should find it a lot cooler now. I was very glad to read today that the Queensland government is proposing new laws to wipe out puppy farms. We want Oscar's Law!

Hope you had a great Saturday! Have you ever managed to get an item you thought was sold out before like I did with my red Lily?
